really good tutorial! I really like how you zoomed in on important parts and put a spotlight on other parts and everything was big so we could see. On other tutorials when they do the screen cast they leave it small. How do u do the zooming, the spotlight and the adding text. Is that something u do after u record? Is it a quicktime function?
@swampzoid If you’re getting distortion, it is usually due to the gain being turned up too high. When you are singing, is the audio meter in GarageBand moving into the red? If so, can you not make gain adjustments?
are you talking about singer’s voice or speaker’s voice ?
I try to sing but the loud parts distort and rattle. I have used extreme compression and that doesn’t work.
Any thoughts on that ?
Thank you ! ! !
@The1hope4all Ah, that’s good. I just spent two whole evenings trying to work out why I could not get a single signal to go from a mic, onto Garage Band, via a brand new M. Audio interface. I was almost at the point of smashing everything up when I discovered that the mic. had an accidentally detached cable inside…. When I used a different mic it worked first time….
This is my first time using garage band. Im using a mac book pro and I’ve made a test recording just using my voice but when I rewind it and press play I hear nothing.
My sound is obviously up and I have no attachments to the laptop.
@KawaiiAnimeLuverGirl If I’m understanding you, you would first record your live instrument with an external mic or a direct line in cable if your instrument has a pickup and you have the right cable to go from your 1/4 jack into the computer.
If you have a song that you have already recorded, GarageBand can import it and it will appear as an individual track. However, you will not be able to edit it beyond cropping and volume. If it is just a vocal track, that would be best.
Sorry for asking, but how would you (a) put in instrumentals to sing along with for fundubs (if you can do that) and (B) put in songs you already sang and edit them. If you dont know about that, its fine, I was just curious.
@DustinDolby Is it USB? If so, unless it has phantom power or a built-in preamp, it may not work. Most USB mics should work without a hitch. What kind of mic is it exactly?
@ransomtech It’s just a regular audio singing microphone, do mac’s require a preamp pluging in between, to work? I know I don’t need one on my vista, so I assumed if vista worked, then apple would also
@TheKainec Sorry for the late reply. All the comments weren’t displaying for some reason. Yes, you most certainly can. However, you’ll want to do so with headphones plugged in so that you can use them as a monitor to listen to the drum and guitar tracks while you sing without their being picked up by your mic.
@NCC94253 Excellent! Also, if you are going to record a longer podcast or any type of recording in this mode, you have to slow down the tempo, as there is a length limit with the default tempo setting. I can’t remember what it is, but it’s something like 60 min. max.
@Lcd4lbad Thanks. I use Screenflow (Mac only), but you can also do the same with Camtasia (Windows/Mac).

@The1hope4all Just Google your question and you’ll find lots of information on multi-track recording with GarageBand
@The1hope4all Yes, assuming you have a multi-channel mixer as the input device.
If I have an audio interface with, say, 4 mic inputs, can I record 4 tracks simoultaneously on GB?
Thank you for posting this. It was very clear and easy to understand.
@QifteliKid The recording quality is totally dependent on the quality of microphone and microphone setup.
will it record in good quality or is it dipendable on the mic?

CAN YOU HELP ME PLEASE??
@ransomtech thanks

@DustinDolby See if you can select it in your System Preferences > Sound.
What kind of mic are you plugging in?
When I plug my mic in, it just doesn’t show up under Input Devices, I can’t record anything?
@TheJoker1416 This one was done with the Blue Snowball mic.
what are you using to record your voice during this video
@NCC94253 Great!

I wasn’t choosing “Podcast” so every time I recorded, my voice sounded very very slow. Thanks for the video; it solved my problem!
